Deutsche Lufthansa AG is Germany's flagship operating airline and Europe's largest air concern, which includes such major airlines as Austrian Airlines, Swiss Airlines, Eurowings (including Germanwings) and Brussels Airlines, as well as a share in the Turkish SunExpress. About 130,000 people are employed by the Company. The Lufthansa Group operates flights to over 80 countries all over the world which is in over two hundred directions. The entirety of its aircraft fleet, including affiliates, makes up about 620 units, and the total passenger traffic as of 2017 exceeded 130 million, which makes Deutsche Lufthansa AG one of the largest aviation enterprises in the world. The company's investments in 2017 amounted to about 3 billion EUR, which is a third higher than the previous year's indications. That includes 900 million EUR spent on taking a stake in the bankrupted Air Berlin, as it was stated in the data reporting. Lufthansa is also a co-incorporator of the Star Alliance, the oldest as well as the largest aviation alliance in the world, established back in 1997.
